5:30 Newcastle Racing Tips (8th February)

A 6f Fillies' Novice Stakes on Standard going.

A large field.

Not a great deal of time, so I will detail one or two worthy of note.

Mayfair Rock is interesting. I am always watching for Karl Burke's horses on their second start. This chestnut filly is a daughter of Society Rock and 35,000G purchase at two. She was relatively weak in the betting on debut at Newcastle over the minimum trip. A slow start, made it a stiff task but this Irish bred ran on well to finish third beaten just over three lengths. This step up in distance should be ideal. Not the biggest price at the time of writing, but looks the type to show up and go well.

Others to consider.

Probably a noteworthy jockey booking with Josephine Gordon riding Mick Channon's Marietta Robusti. If backed, could well hit the frame.

Regina Nostra was partnered by Gordon on debut when 3/1. William Haggas' filly was very ring rusty that day and never competitive. Racing in the ownership of Cheveley Park Stud, this March foal makes a quick return and should be ready.

Porrima hails from Ben Haslam's stable. Not seen for a long time so may be a good idea to see if she is strong or weak in the market.

Mark Johnston should always be respected and Zadorra makes her return after racing over 7f on debut. Well backed on debut from 7/1 - 9/2. She was much too keen and ruined her chance. This drop in distance is most likely considered to help this three-year-old settle.

Conclusion: No great opinion about this race. Interested in seeing how the major hopes go. Mayfair Rock is the type to go well. Intriguing to note the jockey booking for Marietta Robusti. Channon is another trainer who can prime a horse for its second start and if seriously back could hold each-way claims.
