2:00 Ayr (6th June) EBF/TOTEPLACEPOT AVAILABLE AT EVERY MEETING NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (2yo)

An EBF Novices Stakes race over 6f on good to firm going. Six two-year-olds take part. This looks an outstanding opportunity for Masham Star to win for the first time this season. This bay colt, a son of Lawman, has raced twice at York and placed each time behind some talented juveniles in Admiralty Arch and Broken Stones who is almost certain to be heading towards Royal Ascot. Masham Star cost 70,000E at the yearling sales and will find this a much easier task. He has a very good cruising speed and on this fast ground should have most of these in trouble without coming off the bridle. Odds on shots mean different things to different gamblers but even at 4/6f this looks a fair price. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this colt start 1/2. I imagine it will be too short for most punters to bet but this looks a fine chance for Mark Johnston's charge to taste victory for the first time.
