Tuesday's Racing Tips

A few races going today.  I've not had a chance to consider them so will look and write at the same time. Multi-talented.

2:00 Catterick - Wadood was well backed when making his debut but eased when hanging right halfway. Robert Cowell doesn't have many juveniles at such short odds when making their racecourse bow and it could well prove to be a significant sign. This son of Kodiac had been entered for a couple of stakes races before that first start and that in itself is a sign of confidence. After a two month break, it seems logical to consider there was a problem on that initial start and connections will be hoping this 55,000G yearling purchase can go well Catterick Bridge. The only slight negative is that Cowell doesn't feature a very good strike rate with his fancied juveniles on their second start. It does temper my enthusiasm and although I do feel this bay colt has ability I would take a watching brief.

2:50 Leicester - Moondust was fancied on debut and started at 5/2 for a Goodwood maiden, trained by John Gosden in the familiar silks of Lordship Stud. This daughter of Exceed And Excel is a big, strong two-year-old. She cost 180,000G at the yearling sales and was clearly expected to run well on her racecourse debut but suffered interference at the two pole which ruined any chance of success. To be fair, this bay filly has been off course since May, which is a long time to be away from the action. There must have been a few problems along the way but if fancied in the betting should hold fair each-way claims.

6:40 Kempton - Ed Dunlop is a canny trainer and the betting usually speaks volumes for his juveniles when making their debut and particularly so when racing on their second start. These two pointers were highlighted indicating that Al Nafoorah was expected to run very well on her formative starts and most likely to have won. This daughter of Bated Breath disappointed on debut but ran much better last time out at Haydock when second to Mary Ann Evans. This January foal was purchased for 90.000E at the yearling sales and races in the silks of Mohammed Jaber. I would expect her to show up well with valuable experience and must have sound each-way claims priced 5/1.
