Wednesday's Racing Tips

A quieter day. No bad thing. A few decent horses running yesterday. As always, we were correct the majority of the time.

A couple of races today:

2:20 Nottingham -

A big field of fillies. At the time of writing, looks an open race. I would let the betting settle unless you have your eye on something at speculative odds. It still may be wise to wait.

Wings Of The Rock may have more hope than she looks. Scott Dixon doesn't have the biggest string of two-year-olds this season but I am pretty sure connections expected a lot more on debut. This filly toiled home sixth of eight over course and distance.

This chestnut filly is an early foal, born in January. A daughter of Rock of Gibraltar, she was a 67,000E yearling purchase now in the ownership of The Cool Silk Partnership. This syndicate are no stranger to talented juveniles although some of their best horses come from breeze-up purchased. Wings Of The Rock was seriously backed on debut but ran on the wing which may not have helped. The winner scooted clear and went well when stepped up to Listed class when second in the Marygate Listed Race at York. It is interesting to note that Wings Of The Rock has been entered to run at a similar level after that initial disappointment. That is very likely to be a sign of significance. Many debutantes fail to shine on their racecourse bow but they usually show ability next start if they have something going for them. Bookmakers have this filly priced 22/1 which may well prove a mistake. If she has shown promise there is no way connections will leave that price to be snapped up by someone else. It would be a speculative punt but that's the way you have to work if you are looking for a big priced winner.

I'd be tempted to bet at big odds and hope she is backed to give a decent no-lose bet on the exchanges.

It looks a tricky race in ways with a few form horses and leading stables. I wouldn't bet much because this is a hunch rather than a guarantee.

In addition, Nobrassnolass may show more today at huge odds. She ran well on debut, disappointed next start, and really wasn't ridden to hold any hope at Chester. There is always a fear connections will be thinking about nursery races as she looks poor after the last two starts but the stable like a gamble and that may be enough to spur them into action.

8:20 Kempton -

This looks less competitive. Hateya has sound each-way claims if priced 13/2 & less SP. Gay Kelleway has a decent string of juveniles and it was telling that Lady Alavesa started at Ascot. She most likely needed the race but ran a cracking race second start at Ripon and is sure to appreciate this extra furlong. Hello Girl was a huge price at Kempton but showed a pleasing attitude. There was a lot to like about that debut run and another horse I was left with the impression who would go well second time out. I would be surprised if she didn't hit the frame at the least.
